Where is Megiddo in the Bible?

Megiddo was a strategically important ancient city located in the Jezreel Valley in what is now northern Israel, mentioned throughout the Old Testament as a fortified stronghold. The city held great military and commercial significance due to its location controlling major trade routes, and it was fortified by King Solomon around the 10th century BC. Megiddo appears in biblical narratives including Joshua, Judges, and other historical books, with notable events such as Deborah's victory over Sisera's forces recorded in Judges 5:19. The city is particularly remembered as the site where King Josiah of Judah was killed in battle around 609 BC, an event described in 2 Kings 23:29-30 and 2 Chronicles 35:22. In later biblical prophecy, Megiddo becomes symbolically significant as the location associated with the final eschatological battle described in the Book of Revelation, known as Armageddon.
