Where is Rakkath in the Bible?
Rakkath was an ancient fortified city located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee in the region of Naphtali, in what is now Israel. Listed in Joshua 19:35 among the fortified cities of Naphtali, Rakkath was situated between Hammath (identified with hot springs south of the city) and Chinnereth. Many scholars believe that the later city of Tiberias, built by Herod and prominently featured in the Gospel of John, was constructed on or very near the site of ancient Rakkath. The area holds significance in Christian tradition as it lies near where Jesus performed the feeding of the five thousand, an event referenced in John 6:23.

ISBE 1915 (Public Domain)fortified cities in Naphtali (Jos 19:35). It is named between Hammath and Chinnereth. Hammath is identified with the hot baths to the South of Tiberias. There are traces of ancient fortifications here. The rabbis think that Tiberias was built on the site of Rakkath. Certain it is that Herod's town was built upon an ancient site, the graves of the old inhabitants being disturbed in digging the new foundations (Neubauer, Geog. du Talmud, 208).
