Where is Remeth in the Bible?
Remeth was a Levitical city located in the territory of the tribe of Issachar in ancient Israel. The city, also known as Ramoth or Jarmuth, is situated in the fertile Plain of Esdraelon (Jezreel Valley) in what is now northern Israel, approximately 11 miles southwest of Jenin. As a Levitical city, Remeth was specifically allotted to the descendants of Levi and served as a city of refuge and religious center for the Israelites. The site is identified today with the village of er-Rameh, which sits on a distinctive hill rising from the surrounding plain. This allocation is recorded in the books of Joshua and 1 Chronicles as part of the biblical record of tribal land distribution after the conquest of Canaan.
