Where is Samaria in the Bible?

Samaria was the capital city of the northern kingdom of Israel, located in the central hill country of what is now the West Bank. Founded by King Omri around 875 BC (1 Kings 16:24), it served as the political and religious center of Israel until the kingdom's fall to Assyria in 722 BC. The city's inhabitants, called Samaritans, became central figures in biblical history, appearing throughout the Old Testament books of Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, and Amos, as well as in the New Testament where Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:9). The Samaritans held significant theological importance as a people group that maintained their own version of the Torah and occupied a complex position between Jewish and pagan identity. Today, Samaria's location corresponds to the modern Palestinian city of Sebastia in the northern West Bank.
