Socoh was a town in the Shephelah region of Judah (Josh. 15:35), known for being near the site of David's battle with Goliath (1 Sam. 17:1) and later fortified by Rehoboam (2 Chr. 11:7).

Where is Socoh in the Bible?

Socoh was a town located in the Shephelah, the low hill country between the coastal plains and the Judean highlands in the region of Judah. The town is most famous for its proximity to the valley of Elah, where the young shepherd David defeated the giant Goliath in one of the Bible's most iconic confrontations (1 Samuel 17:1). Socoh is mentioned in Joshua 15:35 as one of the towns allocated to the tribe of Judah during the division of the promised land. Later in biblical history, King Rehoboam fortified Socoh as part of his defensive strategy for the Kingdom of Judah (2 Chronicles 11:7). This strategic location in the Shephelah made it an important town for controlling access between Judah's interior and the Philistine-dominated coastal regions.
