Where is Timnath-heres in the Bible?
Timnath-heres (also called Timnath-serah) was a town located in the hill country of Ephraim in ancient Israel. This place holds significant biblical importance as the burial site of Joshua, the great leader who conquered Canaan and divided the promised land among the Israelite tribes. According to Joshua 19:50 and 24:30, the town was allotted to Joshua as his personal inheritance, and he was buried there after his death, as recorded in Judges 2:9. The two variant names for this location, "Timnath-heres" and "Timnath-serah," appear in different biblical manuscripts, with scholars debating which form is original.

It is possible that the change from Heres to Serah may have been deliberate, in order to avoid a form which might savor of idolatry--sun-worship. The Jews and Samaritans hold that Heres is the original form.
