Abagtha אֲבַגְתָא
One of King Ahasuerus' seven eunuchs
Who is Abagtha in the Bible?
Abagtha was one of seven eunuchs who served King Ahasuerus of Persia during the time of Esther, mentioned in Esther 1:10. He and his fellow eunuchs, Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Zethar, and Carcas, were responsible for attending to the king's personal needs and executing his commands. The biblical account records that these eunuchs were instructed to bring Queen Vashti before the king so he could display her beauty to his nobles and officials during a royal banquet. Though Abagtha appears only briefly in Scripture, his presence illustrates the royal court structure of the Persian Empire and the chain of command through which the king's will was carried out.
