Who is Abda in the Bible?

Abda was the father of Adoram (also called Adoniram), who served as Solomon's official in charge of forced labor during the king's reign. He is mentioned only once in Scripture, in 1 Kings 4:6, where he appears in a list of Solomon's administrative officials. Abda's son Adoram oversaw the conscripted workers who built Solomon's temple and other royal construction projects, making Abda's family part of the administrative apparatus that supported one of ancient Israel's most ambitious building periods. Though Abda himself is not described in detail, his appearance in the biblical record indicates his family's prominence in Solomon's governmental structure.

Biography

Abda is mentioned only once in the Bible, in 1Ki.4.6, as the father of Adoram (or 'Adoniram'). He was one of King Solomon's officials, responsible for overseeing the forced labor used in Solomon's building projects.

in the statistical note in (Ne 11:17). This "Abda the son of Shammua" is in the partly duplicate passage in (1Ch 9:16) called "Obadiah the son of Shemaiah."
