Eliezer אֱלִיעֶ֫זֶר
A prophet who rebuked King Jehoshaphat.
Who is Eliezer in the Bible?
Eliezer was a prophet in ancient Judah who served as God's messenger to King Jehoshaphat, rebuking him for forming an unholy alliance with King Ahaziah of Israel (2 Chronicles 20:37). When Jehoshaphat joined forces with Ahaziah to build merchant ships bound for Tarshish, Eliezer prophesied against this partnership, declaring that God would destroy Jehoshaphat's works because of his cooperation with the ungodly king. Following Eliezer's prophecy, the ships were wrecked and never completed their voyage, demonstrating God's judgment on the alliance. Though the Bible provides no further details about Eliezer's broader prophetic ministry, his confrontation with Jehoshaphat illustrates the role of God's prophets in calling the faithful to account for compromising relationships with those who reject God's ways.
