Son of Susi; representative of Manasseh among the spies.

Who is Gaddi in the Bible?

Gaddi, the son of Susi, was the representative of the tribe of Manasseh among the twelve spies sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan (Numbers 13:11). He was tasked with assessing the land's resources and reporting on its inhabitants, but he was among the ten spies who returned with a discouraging report that emphasized the strength of the Canaanites and the difficulties of conquest (Numbers 13:31-33). In contrast, only Joshua and Caleb urged the Israelites to trust God's promise and enter the land. Gaddi's role in bringing back a negative report contributed to the people's unbelief, which resulted in God's judgment that the generation who experienced the Exodus would not enter the Promised Land except for Joshua and Caleb (Numbers 14:20-35). Gaddi thus represents the consequences of faithlessness and doubt in the face of God's promises.

Biography

Gaddi, the son of Susi, is mentioned in Num.13.11 as the representative of the tribe of Manasseh among the twelve spies sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan. The spies were tasked with scouting out the land, assessing its resources, and gathering information about its inhabitants (Num.13.17-20). Gaddi was one of the ten spies who brought back a negative report, emphasizing the strength of the Canaanites and the challenges of conquering the land (Num.13.31-33). Only Joshua and Caleb, the other two spies, gave a positive report and encouraged the Israelites to trust in God's promise (Num.14.6-9). As a result of the people's unbelief and rebellion, God declared that the generation who had witnessed the Exodus would not enter the Promised Land, except for Joshua and Caleb (Num.14.20-35).
