Jehoram יְהוֹרָם
Son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.
Who is Jehoram in the Bible?
Jehoram, also known as Joram, was the son of King Jehoshaphat and reigned over Judah for eight years in Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 21:1-5). He married Athaliah, daughter of the notorious King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, and followed the evil practices of the northern kingdom of Israel rather than the ways of the Lord (2 Chronicles 21:6). During his reign, the nation of Edom revolted against Judah's control, and though Jehoram managed to escape being surrounded in battle, the Lord struck him with an incurable disease of the bowels as divine judgment for his unfaithfulness (2 Chronicles 21:8-19). He died in great pain without honor, and his son Ahaziah succeeded him as king (2 Chronicles 22:1). Jehoram's reign illustrates the spiritual decline that resulted from marrying into the house of Ahab and abandoning the covenant relationship with God.
