Jehozabad יְהוֹזָבָד

Male Moab H3075G 2 books

Son of Shomer, killed King Joash of Judah.

Who is Jehozabad in the Bible?

Jehozabad was the son of Shomer and one of the servants who conspired to assassinate King Joash of Judah (2 Kings 12:21, 2 Chronicles 24:26). Along with Jozabad, son of Shimeath, Jehozabad murdered the king in his bed as an act of revenge for the execution of Zechariah, son of the priest Jehoiada. The assassination occurred at the house of Millo on the road to Silla, and Joash's son Amaziah later executed the conspirators as punishment. Jehozabad's role in Joash's death demonstrates the consequences of the king's unfaithfulness and his turning away from the counsel of the priesthood.
