Father of Joshua the high priest during the exile.

Who is Jehozadak in the Bible?

Jehozadak (also called Jozadak) was the father of Joshua, the high priest who led the restoration of Jewish worship after the Babylonian exile. He was the son of Seraiah, the high priest executed by Nebuchadnezzar when Jerusalem fell in 586 BC, and was himself taken into captivity in Babylon (1 Chronicles 6:14-15). Though Jehozadak lived during the exile, his son Joshua returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel and played a crucial role in rebuilding the temple and reestablishing proper worship (Haggai 1:1, 1:12, 2:2; Zechariah 6:11). Jehozadak's significance lies in his place within the high priestly line during a period of spiritual restoration, bridging the gap between the pre-exile priesthood and the post-exile community's renewed covenant with God.
