Jehucal יְהוּכַל
An official during Zedekiah's reign, opposed Jeremiah.
Who is Jehucal in the Bible?
Jehucal, also known as Jucal, was an official in the court of King Zedekiah of Judah during the final years before Jerusalem's fall. Though he was initially sent by the king to request the prophet Jeremiah's prayers for the nation, Jehucal later became one of Jeremiah's primary opponents in the royal court, as recorded in Jeremiah 37:3. He joined other officials in actively working against the prophet, accusing him of demoralizing the people and urging King Zedekiah to execute him for his warnings of judgment. Jehucal's opposition to Jeremiah demonstrates the political resistance the true prophets of God often faced, even from those who occasionally sought their intercession.
