Son of Pashur, involved in plot against Jeremiah.

Who is Malchiah in the Bible?

Malchiah was the son of Pashur, a priest during the time of the prophet Jeremiah in ancient Judah. He was one of the officials who heard Jeremiah's warnings of Jerusalem's destruction in the temple court and reported them to other leaders (Jer. 38:1). Along with these officials, Malchiah participated in a plot against Jeremiah and cast him into a cistern to silence his prophecies, effectively leaving him to die (Jer. 38:6). Though Malchiah sought to suppress Jeremiah's message, an Ethiopian eunuch named Ebed-Melech rescued the prophet from the cistern. Malchiah's actions illustrate the opposition that prophets faced from religious and political authorities who rejected God's word.
