Meres מֶ֫רֶס

Male H4825 1 book

One of the seven princes of Persia and Media.

Who is Meres in the Bible?

Meres was one of the seven princes of Persia and Media who served as an advisor to King Ahasuerus, as mentioned in Esther 1:14. These seven princes held the highest rank in the Persian kingdom and had direct access to the king's presence. When Queen Vashti refused to appear at a royal banquet, Meres and his fellow princes were consulted by Ahasuerus for their counsel on how to respond to her disobedience. Though Meres is mentioned only briefly, his inclusion among the inner circle of Persian leadership underscores the historical setting of the Book of Esther and the cultural context in which Esther would later become queen.
