Ancestor of temple servants

Who is Neziah in the Bible?

Neziah was the ancestor of a family of temple servants, also called Nethinim, who returned to Judah following the Babylonian exile in the fifth century BC. His descendants are listed among those who came back to Jerusalem under the leadership of Zerubbabel and the high priest Jeshua, as recorded in Ezra 2:54 and Nehemiah 7:56. The temple servants in Neziah's line assisted the Levites in maintaining the temple and performing various service duties essential to worship and sacrifice. Their inclusion in the genealogies of returning exiles demonstrates the importance of these support roles in the restored Jewish community and temple life after exile.
