Where is Bithron in the Bible?
Bithron is a ravine or valley region in ancient Palestine, located in the territory east of the Jordan River near Mahanaim. It appears in the Bible in 2 Samuel 2:29, where it is mentioned as the route taken by Abner and his men as they retreated following their military conflict with Joab's forces during the civil conflict between the house of Saul and the house of David. Scholars generally identify Bithron with either Wady Ajlun or Wady esh Sha'ib, gorges in the region that would have provided natural passage routes between settlements in ancient times. While Bithron itself has limited theological significance, it is notable as part of the historical narrative surrounding the power struggle between David's and Saul's dynasties in early Israel.
