Engedi (or Hazazon-tamar), an oasis in Judah where David sought refuge from Saul, also the site of Chedorlaomer's victory.

Where is Engedi in the Bible?

Engedi is an oasis settlement located in the wilderness of Judah on the western shore of the Dead Sea in ancient Israel, known today as Ein Gedi in modern Israel. The place is most famous from the biblical account of David fleeing from King Saul, finding refuge in the caves and strongholds of Engedi while being pursued (1 Samuel 23-24). Engedi also appears in the Old Testament as Hazazon-tamar, where King Chedorlaomer defeated the inhabitants during his military campaign (Genesis 14:7), and it is referenced in the Song of Solomon as a place of beauty and vineyards. The oasis represented a place of sanctuary and survival in an otherwise harsh desert region, making it significant in the narratives of refuge and God's protection in biblical history.
