n, thou shalt be silenced." The initial "M" of "Madmen" may have arisen by dittography from the last letter of gam. We should then vocalize it as "Dimon," which of course is "Dibon."
Where is Madmen in the Bible?
Madmen is a place in Moab, an ancient region located east of the Dead Sea in what is now Jordan. The only biblical reference to Madmen appears in Jeremiah 48:2, where the prophet Jeremiah pronounces God's judgment against this Moabite city, declaring it will be silenced and destroyed. Some scholars suggest that "Madmen" may be a scribal error and that the original place name was "Dibon" or "Dimon," a more prominent Moabite city. The prophecy against Madmen is part of Jeremiah's broader message of condemnation against Moab for its opposition to God and Israel.
