Male Tribe of Gad H6179 2 books

Son of Gad; head of the Erite clan.

Who is Eri in the Bible?

Eri was a son of Gad and the head of the Erite clan in ancient Israel. He is mentioned in Genesis 46:16 as one of the seventy members of Jacob's family who descended into Egypt during the famine. Later, in the census recorded in Numbers 26:16, the Erites, a clan bearing Eri's name, were counted among the descendants of Gad in the wilderness of Sinai. Though little is recorded about Eri personally, his significance lies in his role as a tribal founder whose lineage became an identifiable family group within the larger tribal structure of Israel.
