Haggi חַגִּי

Male Tribe of Gad H2291 2 books

Son of Gad, grandson of Jacob.

Who is Haggi in the Bible?

Haggi was a son of Gad and a grandson of Jacob, mentioned in the genealogies of Genesis and Numbers. He appears in Genesis 46:16 as part of the family that traveled to Egypt during the famine, and is listed again in Numbers 26:15 among the sons of Gad during the wilderness census. The descendants of Haggi became known as the Haggites and were counted as part of the tribe of Gad. Though Haggi himself is not described as performing any significant actions in Scripture, his inclusion in these genealogical records preserves the tribal lineage and demonstrates the organization of Israel's twelve tribes during their formative periods.

Biography

Haggi is mentioned in Gen.46.16 and Num.26.15 as one of the sons of Gad, who was one of the twelve sons of Israel (or 'Jacob'). The descendants of Haggi are referred to as the Haggites in Num.26.15, where they are counted as part of the tribe of Gad in the census taken in the wilderness.
