One who married a foreign wife during Ezra's time

Who is Hananiah in the Bible?

Hananiah was an Israelite who married a foreign wife during the time of the prophet Ezra, as recorded in Ezra 10:28. When Ezra discovered that many Jews had taken foreign wives in violation of God's law, he called the people to repent and separate from their non-Israelite spouses. Hananiah was among those who responded to this call and agreed to put away his foreign wife, as noted in Ezra 10:19. His participation in this act of repentance demonstrates the community's commitment to maintaining covenant faithfulness and religious purity during the post-exile restoration of Israel.
