Where is Jabesh in the Bible?
Jabesh, known more fully as Jabesh-gilead, was an ancient town located in the region of Gilead, east of the Jordan River in what is now modern-day Jordan. This settlement gained prominence in biblical history as the site where King Saul first demonstrated his military prowess by delivering the town from the siege of Nahash the Ammonite, an event recorded in 1 Samuel 11. The people of Jabesh-gilead became known for their loyalty to Saul, and they later honored him by retrieving his body and those of his sons after their defeat at Mount Gilboa. This act of devotion highlighted the deep bond between Saul and this particular community and demonstrated the moral character of Jabesh's inhabitants.
