Aspatha אַסְפָּ֑תָא
One of the ten sons of Haman
Who is Aspatha in the Bible?
Aspatha was one of the ten sons of Haman, the Persian official who conspired to destroy the Jewish people during the reign of King Ahasuerus (Esther 9:7). After Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai exposed Haman's genocidal plot, the king executed Haman and granted the Jews the right to defend themselves against their enemies. As a result of this reversal of fortune, Aspatha and his nine brothers were also put to death, which secured the safety of the Jewish people and completed the downfall of Haman's household. The execution of Haman's sons symbolizes the total defeat of the antagonistic forces in the book of Esther and underscores the complete vindication of Mordecai and Esther.
Biography
Aspatha was one of the ten sons of Haman, the chief antagonist in the book of Esther. Haman, a high-ranking official in the Persian court, plotted to exterminate the Jewish people throughout the Persian Empire. However, his plan was thwarted by Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai, resulting in Haman's execution. In the aftermath of Haman's downfall, King Ahasuerus granted the Jews permission to defend themselves against their enemies. During this time, the ten sons of Haman, including Aspatha, were also executed, marking the end of the threat against the Jewish people and the triumph of Esther and Mordecai.
