Simon Σίμων

Male Tribe of Judah G4613H 2 books

Brother of Jesus, son of Mary and Joseph.

Who is Simon in the Bible?

Simon was one of the brothers of Jesus, the son of Mary and Joseph who grew up with Jesus in Nazareth (Matthew 13:55, Mark 6:3). He had at least three other brothers named James, Joseph, and Judas, though the gospels provide no details about his life or ministry during Jesus' earthly life. Initially, Jesus' brothers did not believe in him (John 7:5), but after Jesus' resurrection and ascension, Simon joined his other brothers in the early Jerusalem church, participating in prayer with the apostles (Acts 1:14). His presence among the believers shows that Simon eventually came to faith in Jesus as the Messiah and became part of the community that would establish Christianity.

Biography

Simon is mentioned in Mat.13.55 and Mrk.6.3 as one of the brothers of Jesus, along with James, Joseph (or Joses), and Judas (or Jude). He was a son of Mary and Joseph and grew up in Nazareth with Jesus and his other siblings.

The gospels do not provide any further details about Simon's life or his relationship with Jesus during his earthly ministry. However, it is noted that Jesus' brothers did not believe in him initially (Jhn.7.5).

After Jesus' resurrection and ascension, his brothers, including Simon, are mentioned as being part of the early Christian community in Jerusalem, joining the apostles in prayer (Act.1.14). This suggests that Simon, along with his brothers, came to faith in Jesus as the Messiah and became involved in the early church.
