Judges 17:10-12

Micah's Shrine: Private Religion in a Leaderless Israel

Judges 17 begins the book's double epilogue by showing covenant disorder at the household level: Micah returns stolen silver, his mother dedicates it to the LORD while commissioning images, Micah builds a private shrine and priesthood, and a wandering Levite is hired to give the arrangement a veneer of legitimacy.

Berean Standard Bible, Public Domain - Translation notes - Reference sources

10“Stay with me,” Micah said to him, “and be my father and priest, and I will give you ten shekels of silver per year, a suit of clothes, and your provisions.” So the Levite went in

11and agreed to stay with him, and the young man became like a son to Micah.

12Micah ordained the Levite, and the young man became his priest and lived in his house.
